Magic Babushka

In her book Picture ThisLynda Barry tells us to doodle the images of our childhood. The image that brought me the most comfort as a strange little girl wasn't the rainbow encrusted unicorn or smiley sun above a cheerful house: It was Magic Babushka. She was large. She was in charge. And, much like the beloved Magic 8 Ball phase of grade six, she spoke the truth in love (her truth, however, did not save me from the horrors of watermelon scented hairspray, boy bands, or MC Hammer pants):
